This course was designed to help the participant address technically difficult areas when dealing with the periodontally involved patient.
Topics to be covered include:
Detection of calculus using the probe
Instrument selection and sequencing
Innovative operator positioning, fulcrums and and instrument uses
What is considered end point?
This clinical session will be provided with participants assuming the role of both patient and operator.

dvanced Periodontal Hand Instrumentation - Furcations
Furcation instrumentation is the nemesis of most dental hygienists, but is necessary for the successful outcome of non-surgical therapy.
Topics to be covered include:
Instruments available for furcation instrumentation (both traditional and instruments specific to the instrumentation of furcations)
This clinical session will be provided with the use of typodonts.

nstrument Sharpening - The Cutting Edge
Sharpening is likely the most critical factor in non-surgical periodontal therapy. Proper sharpening skills have the potential to affect the success of manual hand instrumentation, treatment outcomes, operator injury and fatigue, as well as the time needed to complete treatment.
Topics to be covered include:
Instrument sharpening techniques for gracey currettes, universal scalers, sickle scalers and mini-bladed instruments (a variety of techniques will be discussed).
